Primaries open Thursday but High School remains closed

With the worst of the winter weather having passed, for the time being anyway, primary schools in Wilmslow are intending to reopen tomorrow, Thursday January 6th.

Ashdene, Gorsey Bank, Lacey Green, Lindow and St Anne's Fulshaw primary schools have all confirmed they will be open, as will Wilmslow Preparatory and Pownall Hall schools. Unfortunately as yet we have been unable to confirm the situation with Dean Oaks.

However Wilmslow High School have very reluctantly decided to remain closed to all students on Thursday. A spokesperson at the school said "Despite the efforts of site staff and outside contractors to clear ice and snow the school car-park, footpaths and external social areas are still extremely icy and a return to school would put at risk the safety of our students."

The snow is now becoming mainly confined to the south but the Met Office have issued a warning about widespread ice across the region and although the North West Ambulance Service continues to urge people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary.

Director of Emergency Services, Derek Cartwright said: “Although we are no longer operating at major incident status, all non-emergency journeys into hospitals across the region have been cancelled for the next 48 hours. Patients will hear from local PCTs about the rescheduling of appointments."

Social Care staff in Cheshire East are continuing to work hard to ensure services are maintained to those in greatest need during the extreme weather and have announced that all existing customers have received a hot meal today.

However the authority is still appealing to residents to look out for elderly and vulnerable neighbours to ensure they stay safe and warm during the cold spell and have sufficient food supplies.

Wilmslow High School have announced that they intend the school to be open on Friday to all students.

A spokesperson for the school said "Conditions around the two turning circles are such that no parents should drive onto the site in order to drop off their children. If you still intend to bring your child to school by car please drop them off at alternative locations and let them walk the rest of the way. Sixth Form students should not drive to school in their cars as there will be no parking on site available for them."

"Our site staff and external contractors will continue to work on improving the state of the site but we ask for your continued understanding during these abnormal weather conditions."
