Wilmslow Gets Together in memory of MP Jo Cox

Wilmslow Quakers together with Transition Wilmslow teamed up with the town's monthly Artisan Market to put on 'The Great Wilmslow Get Together'.

This was one of many neighbourhood celebrations that took place across the country during the weekend of 16th -18th June to remember murdered MP Jo Cox who believed that "We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us".

Market goers were offered gingham ribbon and pennants, following the campaign theme.

Pat Baker, on behalf of Wilmslow Quakers and Transition Wilmslow, said "There were handshakes and hugs at The Great Get Together stall and messages written in the guest book after visitors reflected on Jo's words that "we have more in common than that which divides us".

"Some opted to share their messages on social media with a photo. Over 100 stall holders entered into the spirit, many wearing the gingham theme and decorating their displays appropriately."

In the afternoon Cycle Wilmslow led a 'Great Wilmslow Family Cycle Ride' with riders ranging in age from 8 to 96 years old.

Pat added "The day engendered a spirit of love and peace and hope for our communities to go forward in harmony and understanding. In the words of the national Great Get Together Team the weekend of events 'brought together millions of people for the biggest community celebrations since the Jubilee, and powerfully showed that we have more in common'."
