Elderly residents left in the cold for a week

Elderly residents living in sheltered accommodation on Hawthorn Street have been without hot water for a week.

The hot water at Chapel Court went off on the afternoon of Tuesday 6th June leaving many of the 27 residents unable to take a hot bath or shower and without heating.

Resident Ingermar Peter Turner contacted Peaks and Plains Housing Trust to alert them to the problem on Thursday, 8th June.

Mr Turner told wilmslow.co.uk "I received a reply the same day telling me they were investigating it. I sent another email on 10th June requesting £12 per day compensation. No reply was received.

"I phoned Peaks and Plains on Sunday 11th June and was told nobody would be on site to look at the water problem until Monday. Today, Monday, one week later, a notice has been placed on the communal notice board stating that Peaks and Plains are working with their approved contractors to resolve the problem. The water is still cold and I cannot have a bath. Tomorrow, Tuesday will be day eight."

Mr Turner continued "Most of the residents at Chapel Court suffer various forms of disability. People very rarely complain. They seem to suffer in silence.

"Only one resident, who is around the age of 90, has complained to me about having to wash his elderly wife by boiling the kettle. He too has no electric shower and he told me he had had his bath removed some time ago."

Dave Tutton, Chapel Court resident, said "When elderly men and women, some in their 80s and 90s are forced to carry pans and kettles of hot water around their flats because of the failure of the hot water supply, then this to my mind is an emergency. Peaks & Plains obviously do not agree and they have taken more than a week to fix a problem that should have been rectified within 12 hours at the most.

"Thankfully hot water was restored on Tuesday afternoon, much to the delight of residents. Because we are in the summer months P&P seem to think that a hot water supply is not so important. In the light of events at Chapel Court over the past week I urge them to think again and give such incidents top priority."

A spokesperson for Peaks and Plains Housing Trust said "We are really sorry about the problems our tenants at Chapel Court have been experiencing with their hot water.

"We were first alerted to the problem on Wednesday 7 June. We've been working hard to fix the problems, but it's a more complex problem than we thought, which means that it's been only working intermittently since Wednesday.

"We are onsite today (13th) to find a permanent solution.

"We will be visiting all of our 27 customers individually over the next week to offer our apologies in person."

Ingermar Peter Turner has also complained to Peaks and Plains Housing Trust about the noise and disturbance residents suffer as a result of them hiring the main hall to outside groups.

He told wilmslow.co.uk "At Chapel Court, Peaks and Plains let the main hall out to non-residents. They do this six days per week from around 8:30 am to 10 pm. It can be in use three times per day. Right now, 12:30 pm, it's Zumba Pro. That means the same old music tracks round and round which have been played every Tuesday at this time for the last two years. Singing, dancing, music, clapping and sometimes hysteria.

"My complaint has been to Peaks and Plains, George Osborne MP, The Housing Ombudsman, and Cheshire East Council. I have complained about the noise, nuisance, and loss of privacy. I have even had the council check to see whether planning permission is needed for outside use. Nothing has happened; Sometimes you can't even think because to the noise and disturbance."

CEC Housing Dept should take action against this social housing LL as they would against a Private Sector LL or against themselves.
CEC should publish final action taken asap.

"CEC Housing Dept" - You will be lucky, they don't have one

So no PRS can expect interference from CEC. That just leaves CEC to sort out their social housing at Cheshire taxpayers expense? Fortunately CEC is not resp for too many, recently renovated high rise flats?
