Local gardens to open their gates

Nineteen local gardeners are paying extra special attention to their gardens as they will be opening their gates to the public at the end of the month.

Between 10.30am and 4.30pm on Saturday 24th June, members of the public will be the opportunity to visit these beautiful gardens located in Wilmslow, Handforth and Alderley Edge.

All the gardens are opening for the benefit of Wilmslow Wells for Africa, which, over the past 30 years, has been working successfully to provide sources of clean water in rural African communities with projects bringing much-needed relief for many drought-stricken areas all over the continent.

Visitors will find plenty of ideas to inspire them - from wildlife havens, restful contemplative gardens, cottage gardens, meadows, formal, contemporary and productive gardens with orchards and veg plots.

Whilst children can enjoy an aviary with canaries and a narrow-gauge model railway which will be running throughout the day at The Circuit, Wilmslow.

Several of them will be selling light refreshments, including homemade cakes and ice-lollies, to enjoy in the delightful surroundings and lunches will also be available at St John's Church Rooms on Knutsford Road.

Advance tickets can be bought for £10 from Chelsea Flowers on Chapel Lane or by calling 01625 522552 or 520193. On the day tickets priced £12 can be purchased at any of the gardens.

Visit the charity's website for details of all the gardens which will be open on Saturday 24th June.

Wilmslow Wells is run entirely by volunteers and 99.2% of income is spent directly on projects such as simple wells, boreholes and rainwater harvesting equipment. Since the mid 1980's, they have raised over £1 million; funded 190 projects (many involving multiple wells) and spent less than £9,000 on running costs.
