Sculpture damaged by vandals again

A sculpture which was unveiled in the town centre in June 2014 has been targeted by vandals for the second time.

The Pear, which was carved from red St Bees sandstone by Wilmslow sculptor Keith Carter Harris and is located on Alderley Road, was knocked down earlier this week.

In July 2014, only a month after its installed, The Pear was destroyed by vandals. After which is was repaired and a more solid construction has been designed.

Sculptor Keith Carter Harris said "It is terrible news that the sculpture has once again been targeted. I did take a look at it after I had heard what happened, and it looks like a great deal of concerted effort took place to bring it down.

"It is a sad state of affairs that the effort put into destroying public art, cannot be put towards something positive rather than destructive. It is even more upsetting, as it is now only eight weeks to go before Wilmslow will once again be judged by the RHS for in Bloom."

The police have been informed of the vandalism and anyone with information is requested to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 8742505.

Keith added " I understand that they are currently looking at the CCTV footage to see if the culprits can be identified this time. When the sculpture was first damaged the CCTV cameras at the time were pointed the other way when it happened. Hopefully, this time, we will have clear pictures of those who seek to destroy rather than create."

It is hoped that The Pear can be repaired shortly, in the meantime a temporary barrier has been placed around the area.

We really are cursed with some first class idiots. We have groups of volunteers working hard to make Wilmslow a great place to live and the occasional idiot trying to undo it all. A set of functioning stocks would be a delightful addition to the town centre.

Don't put it back in the same ridiculous location! It always looked out of place in the current location anyway.

Not much of a solid construction.
Better luck next time! Waste of money
