Churches Together in Wilmslow are holding a vigil for the community of Wilmslow and the surrounding areas in tribute to the victims of this week's terror attack in Manchester.

The vigil will be held at the Memorial Gardens, opposite St Bartholomew's Church, on Monday, 29th May - one week after 22 people were killed in the terrorist attack at Manchester Arena.

Revd Kirsty Thorpe, on behalf of Churches Together in Wilmslow which is organising Monday night’s peace vigil, told wilmslow.co.uk "We wanted to offer people in this area a chance to Stand Together one week after the Manchester bombing.

"None of us are unaffected by this. Manchester is our city too."

'We Stand Together' Wilmslow peace vigil will take place from 7.30pm to 8pm.

Khumi Burton said "I am extremely glad we in Wilmslow are holding this vigil with the help of Churches Together. This will bring all of us together as one community and make us stronger."

A vigil is also being arranged for the victims of the Manchester terrorist attack in Handforth on Monday, 29th May.

The people of Handforth are invited to meet at Meriton Road Park at 7pm.

Handforth resident Tara Pownall is organising the event, she told wilmslow.co.uk "I have asked everybody to bring a candle.

"I have also arranged for 22 pink balloons each with a name of the victims."

She added "I have had very good feedback from the people of Handforth about this and there will be hundreds of people from Handforth there."

As a family, we have just got back from the vigil. I wanted to thank Churches Together for arranging it at such short notice. Every speaker hit the right tone and it was lovely to see so many people standing together- of various religions and none at all, talking about the things we have in common and not our differences.

We took our 5 year old son and whilst it prompted some difficult questions before (and now on-going!), it certainly felt appropriate and he was far from the only young person there.
Thank you again to everyone involved in the organisation of the event
