Travellers decamp to just down the road

A group of travellers who spent four days camped on Council owned sports fields off Altrincham Road have moved on to the Airport City site.

The travellers arrived at the Jim Evison Playing Fields at about 5pm on Monday, 24th April, where they parked 16 caravans and numerous other vehicles, including a couple of commercial ones.

Councillor Ellie Brooks said "The locks were probably cut as we know the barrier was secure. Residents have complained that cars are being raced over the fields late at night and disturbing them."

An officer from Cheshire East Council was dispatched to the site on Monday and notice papers were sent to court on Tuesday morning so a court order to leave the site could be issued.

The travellers left about 10pm on Thursday, 27th April, after being served an eviction notice by Cheshire East Council, and moved just down the road to land adjacent to the Airport City site on the A538, just past the airport tunnels.
