Wilmslow Town Council has decided nominate up to two town councillors to act as trustees to the Evans Arts Trust, who requested that the Council formally appoint two trustees.

Town Clerk Matthew Jackson explained "This was previously done by Cheshire East Council, after the Town Council was formed Cheshire East Council decided they wouldn't do so going forward."

Representatives from the Town Council have been attending meetings of the Evans Arts Trust, to act as a conduit between the two bodies, but they've never formally appointed trustees.

Councillor Angela McPake said "Trustees were appointed to essentially ensure the interests of Wilmslow were properly regarded. The trusts are very clear that they are about Wilmslow, there was always a danger that some of the trustees wouldn't be Wilmslow based so the idea was that the Council would provide a couple of people to make sure there was a focus on Wilmslow."

The Evans Arts Trust meets six times a year to consider applications for small grants which are available to support arts projects that bring high quality performances to Wilmslow.

Grants from the Evans Arts Trust have helped the Lindow Singers to employ young professional soloists for concerts and have supported Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra's slashing of children's ticket prices to £2, to encourage families to bring their children to experience live classical music.

The trust is also a regular supporter of TEMPO and Alderley & Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company and supported an initiative of the Cheshire Youth Pantomime Society to invite disadvantaged groups to see the show free of charge.

Wilmslow Town Council will appoint up to two trustees at their Annual Meeting on Monday, 15th May.
