Theatre company celebrates 70 years

AWMTC Platinum Collection cast

Alderley and Wilmslow Musical Theatre Company is celebrating seven decades of music, dance, and laughter.

The community based company, happily led by a bunch of volunteers, was first established in 1947 in the ballroom of what was then the Rex Theatre. Started by 12 members of the Wilmslow Musical Comedy Society, it's been a real love of theatre that's kept the company going and enabled it to grow to currently have 67 members.

Chair Person, Tina Spiers said "AWMTC is a real passion in my life. I've been Chair for a couple of years now, but I've been a member for 22 years. It's been brilliant to perform on stage in such wonderful shows, and fantastic way to make new friends. The past 70 years have been amazing, we've grown our repertoire and have nutured some formidable talent. We hope to be going strong for another 70 years."

They've performed popular musicals such as Oklahoma, My Fair Lady, Sister Act, The Sound of Music, and just last year, White Christmas. They have also been privileged to have been invited to perform in a showcase at The Lowry, and will be performing again this year on 16th July.

Currently the members are working on a celebration show called The Platinum Collection, featuring songs from the past 70 years of performances. The show will be be performed May 13th and 14th at Mottram St Andrew Village Hall. Then in November they will be putting on Dolly Parton's 9 to 5 at the Evans Theatre in Wilmslow.
