Teams from the council's environmental services company have been working to clean up the A34 bypass ahead of next week's Wilmslow Spring Clean Week.
In the first two days of the week, staff from Ansa have been litter picking and sweeping the inside carriageway of the bypass between two of the roundabouts.
As a result they have collected 67 bags of litter from the one side of this stretch of the A34 but, due to the continued roadworks, the traffic management company were unable to close down a lane to enable them to clear the other side of the road.
Ansa will continue litter picking the two other sections of the A34 bypass today (Wednesday) and Thursday.
Caroline Griffies, Senior Team Leader Street Cleansing at Ansa Environmental Services said "We will have the opportunity to litter pick again on the A34 in the early summer when our colleagues in Cheshire East Highways organise traffic management for grass cutting and other highways works."
Helen Battilana said "As a member of Wilmslow Clean Team, I'm pleased that the Council, via Ansa, have been able to undertake this litter clearance work following a publicity reminder from our organisation.
"If they could afford to clean the verges more frequently, perhaps they wouldn't become so unsightly – I feel that people are more likely to throw their litter in places which are already badly littered."
