"Oscar" the pipe organ at St Bartholomew's Church will gives his final recital next month entitled "Oscar goes flying".

The concert will take place at 1.15pm on Friday, 7th April and the programme will feature a number of famous pieces of music associated with flying including the Dam Busters March, the R.A.F March Past and Come Fly With Me.

Organist Philip Underwood said "Children are especially welcome and are invited to bring their plastic model aeroplanes. There is a £5 prize for the best model seen."
He added "After Easter "Oscar" will be undergoing his major face lift. The monthly Friday recitals will continue however as we have the use of a smaller pipe organ supplied to us by the organ builders."

St Bartholomew's launched a campaign at the beginning of 2015 to raise £250,000 for the restoration of its pipe organ which celebrates its 150th birthday this year.

Since then the church has raised sufficient funds and work has began on building their new organ which is expected to be complete by the Autumn.

In the meantime the church is looking to recruit an organ scholar. This might suit a young person who has yet to try the organ but is of grade 5 – 6 standard on the piano and is keen to learn. The scholarship would provide tuition and performing experience. Further details may be obtained by email from Philip Underwood
