Reader's Photos: All our Yesterdays

Kelvin Briggs sent us these photos of the site of the former Yesterdays nightclub at Harden Park.

The site is currently being cleared as planning permission was granted to demolish the Victoria villa, most recently used as Yesterdays nightclub but originally a small hotel, and replace it with a residential development of 12 dwellings, 4 of which will be affordable units.

Kelvin said "Just a couple of birds on the Yesterdays/ Hardern Park pond on Friday as the tree fellling and site clearance gathers pace.

"A few snowdrops peeping through as the ancient trees are felled. No more buzzards nesting and calling out overhead. No smell of wild garlic and just a few signs of the bluebell growth.

"A site of desolation, quite ethereal in early morning silence and peace."

Yet another development we can add to the growing number which are ignored in the calculation of local housing supply.

Oh boy! All that wood! What I wouldn't do to get my hands on that lot! Currently collecting next year's wood for the wood store - shame I didn't know about it :-(

Pleased this site is finally being developed, though such a crying shame it couldn't have been renovated... At least my 15-year-old and his friends can't go messing about the derelict site now :-)

A proper lesson here in how to get your way. Leave the existing building to decay and become dangerous then promise a few "affordable" homes. Then EC with it's sights on all that lovely rates income will roll over to have it's tummy tickled. Same old story. Another site that would have been ideal for medical facilities etc.

excellent news. Good luck to the developers and the new residents when they finally get to move in!
