Plans for Waters' car park extension approved

Waters Corporation has been granted planning permission to extend and modify its car park to meet both their current and future demands.

Their headquarters off Altrincham Road currently accommodates 610 members of staff, with temporary staff, contractors and visiting also attending the site on a daily basis. The headcount is forecast to grow at a rate of approximately 50 additional members of staff each year to 2020.

The existing car park provides 478 staff parking spaces and 60 spaces for visitors. However, the car park is frequently 100% occupied which means that staff are often forced to park at the end of the car park aisles which can cause obstruction. Hence the company has sought a permanent solution.

Planning permission has been granted for an additional 56 additional parking spaces which will be created by removing a number of small landscaping beds set within and at the end of the aisles and by extending the car park into soft landscaping areas which will be finished with grass crete.

The plans can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference . The last date for submitting comments is January 4th 2017 and a decision is expected by February 3rd 2017.

One might have hoped that the Planners at CEC might have thought about this when the original planning application was made. CEC Planning ref.11/0644M

Presumably many of the parking issues, in and around Wilmslow, can be traced back to short-sighted Planning Officers recommending schemes where there is no margin for future growth regarding staff numbers and parking requirement?

Big problem when 600 vehicles travel along Altrincham rd and travel to and from Waters Baz Usually the time of the school runs
