Work got underway on Monday, 9th January, to revitalise the skate park in Handforth's Stanley Hall Park'.
The Friends of Stanley Hall Park, a group of like-minded people who came together to replace, renew and refurbish Stanley Hall Park through a five year plan, have been awarded grants totalling £75,000 from The Veolia Environmental Trust, WREN and the Cheshire Police Crime Prevention Fund. This has enabled them to begin work on reviving the existing skatepark on Peover Road which has deteriorated over the years and now only has three ramps.
This will be replaced by a custom-built concrete skate park, suitable for skateboarders, BMXers, inline skaters and scooter riders.
The funders, Cheshire East Council and the contractors have been working with the friends group to finalise the project's details so that work can be completed as soon as possible.
Secretary of the friends group, Janet Taylor, said, "This grant is great news for the park and young people in Handforth. The young residents tell us there is a desperate gap in facilities for this age group in the area. This new skatepark will help meet this need."
The Executive Director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Paul Taylor, says, "The new skatepark will make a real difference to young people from Handforth and the surrounding area. With the increasing reduction in the amount of funds that we can award, the friends group needs to be congratulated on securing this grant in an extremely competitive environment."
Richard Smith, WREN's grant manager for Cheshire, said "It's always nice to see something we have funded start to take shape. We're delighted to be supporting such a worthwhile project and look forward to it benefitting young people across Handforth in the very near future."
