Get set for the 2017 Swimathon challenge

Swimathon 2017

Local swimmers are invited to take the plunge and challenge themselves to take part in the 2017 Wilmslow Swimathon.

The Swimathon brings together swimmers of all abilities and ages with last year's event seeing swimmers from age 5 to 70 taking part.

Since 1988 hundreds of teams have joined in, raising over £145,000 for many local and national charities.

This year the event will be run by the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean, who are keen to see teams join in and raise money for local good causes and the community. However, the Swimathon has the added attraction that 50% of the money raised by each team is kept by them, providing a useful source of funds for their own special projects or charity of choice.

The 2017 Swimathon will take place on the evenings of Saturday 25th March and Saturday 1st April at Wilmslow Leisure Centre, between 5pm and 7pm.

Paul Almond, Swimathon organiser explained, "The gist of the Swimathon is very simple. Each team consists of approximately six swimmers who swim on a relay basis. Your team will be allocated a lane in the pool and how you organise the team's swim is left up to you. The aim is to swim as many lengths of the 25 metre pool as you can in 55 minutes and the total will be recorded.

"The event is a bit of fun, not a race, and supporters are welcome. It can give people a goal to train for, an extra reason to get in the pool and above all else it helps to raise money for local charities. We would be very pleased if you would support this and help to ensure that the Swimathon grows and continues to raise funds for good causes."

The organisers are trying to encourage more businesses to enter teams as well as more youngsters to take part.

If you are interested in joining in the event please email the organisers, further information and sponsorship forms will then be provided.
