Reader's Letter: Are modern cars not fitted with indicators?

roundbaout

I know this was published couple of years ago but we seem to have a lot more cars on the road with no Indicators.

Is it an optional extra, or are they not fitted on modern cars?

It beggars belief the drivers on roundabouts and turning left have no idea that that little stalk, behind your steering wheel, makes the orange lights flash.

This lets us all know where you are going!

This also enables the rest of us to pull out, or turn ourselves. Instead of waiting for lazy drivers who ignore us.

Going left, even leaving roundabouts make the orange lights work.

Two working headlights and tail lights seems pretty optional as well.

Some of the worst people are the ones with big cars they seem to think I don't need to indercate, because I am so big you can see me coming,or is it that I am so lazy why should I bother,I said to one driver is that one of the new car's he said yes It is,I said don't they put indercaters on them nowadays he did not see the point!?.

I have noticed the same. I assumed it was just an increase in arrogance on the part of people who only care that they know where they are heading and have a total disregard for others.

Thought I was a minority but going by comments here there are other like minded drivers out there that know the benefits of indicating at roundabouts in accordance with the highway code. I’m also concerned at the number of cars driving at night with only one side/rear/headlight or various combinations thereof. When I first passed my test in 1972 I remember the police would pull drivers up for such inconsiderate driving?Just means to me that not many cars these days are even being put in for annual MOT’s; very worrying eh?

It seems to me, from my experience that Indicators are not fitted to German vehicles, like the BMW, Mercedes, Audi's and VW vehicles.
Because its predominantly the Drivers of these vehicles who don't use Indicators, particularly around the Wilmslow area. Mind you, they don't take any notice of parking laws either!

The new vehicles that have front "running lights" have fooled some into thinking their rear lights are also on. They are not. It also appears that some do not know it is illegal to park facing traffic after dusk. Perhaps plod could do something about this dangerous parking. Oh no they are on another wild goose chase trying to catch someone guilty of "racist grafitti". A bit of application and huge numbers could be off the road!!
More seriously it does take some imagination to plan the junctions and roundabouts so poorly.

Blimey, complaints about the poor standard of driving on local roads. Who'd have thought it? Now where did I put my gun? There's some fish in a barrel I've got to go and shoot....

Oops, I seem to have blundered into the Austin Allegro owners' forum web-page...

You just have to witness all the idiotic selfish drivers that park on pavements to see that many just don't care about anyone else.
