A new weekly group is launching in Wilmslow in the new year for those with memory problems or dementia, as well as their family and friends.

The first dementia cafe in Wilmslow, called In Together, is the result of efforts from the combined groups including Wilmslow's Churches Together along with Fulshaw and Row of Trees Women's Institutes.

In Together will be run at Wilmslow Methodist Church Hall and supported entirely by volunteers. The two hourly sessions, will take place every Monday afternoon from 2pm to 4pm, and will offer opportunities for socialising over drinks and cakes, engaging in activities, talks and entertainment.

Donna Johnstone explained "It is hoped that members of the group will influence the content of the group as it develops."

The launch of the group will be held at the Wilmslow Methodist Church Hall on Monday, 9th January 2017 from 2 to 4pm.

Donna said "Any interested people are welcome to come and find out what is involved; those with memory problems or with a diagnosis of dementia, family and friends supporting them at home, and those interested in becoming volunteers.

"After refreshments on arrival, people will have the opportunity to listen to two people with dementia, from The Stockport EDUCATE group, about how they live well with dementia and how others support them. An outline will then be given of what is planned so far, and there will be an opportunity for those present to express their interest and give views on what they would like from the group."
