School gives back to the community at Christmastime

This holiday season children at The Wilmslow Academy have decided to give back to the community and help those less fortunate than themselves by taking part in a 'Reverse Advent Calendar'.

Principal Mrs Janet Hughes explained "This is a charity event to support Food Friend, a food bank based at St Bartholomew's Church in Wilmslow. Rather than expecting to receive, the children in each class will give an item of food during December. This should be a non-perishable food item to be given out after Christmas when many people find it harder to make ends meet."

Manager of the project, Flo Knowles, said: "We are very grateful to the support of The Wilmslow Academy. We have nearly 200 families on our books now and we would not be able to help them put food on the table without this kind of support. The Reverse Advent Calendar is a lovely idea at this time of year when our clients struggle the most."

Although based in a church, Food Friend is available to be used by anyone of any faith in our community. If you would like to find out more about the charity and how to donate items please visit www.wilmslowparish.co.uk/foodfriend.
