Orchestra promises an evening of festive fun

Once again Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra is promising an evening of seasonal fun at their Christmas Concert on Saturday, 3rd December.

The audience will have the opportunity to join in the Christmas Carols, arranged by clarinettist Geoff Thomason, and enjoy principal trombonist Gareth Brown's jazz arrangements which are always one of the highlights and will provide another chance to hear his 'Jazzed Up Merry Christmas'.

Speaking about the programme, Dermot Gault said "Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride, another seasonal favourite, is paired with a Russian sleigh ride from Prokofiev, and of course any concert becomes a party with Offenbach's Orpheus in the Underworld Overture. There are tuneful favourites from Dvorak, and we open with the Christmas Overture by Cambridge graduate Nigel Hess, which is rapidly establishing itself as a modern favourite. No-one knows better how to create the Christmas spirit than conductor Juan Ortuño, and we are delighted to welcome him back for this concert."

As usual, the concert will be in the Evans Theatre in Wilmslow Leisure Centre - with free parking and good disabled access.

The concert commences at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £12 (concessions £10, under 16s £2) and can be bought at the door, or through the ticket hotline on 01925 756144, or through the Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra website.
