Man left badly bruised after trying to stop his car from being stolen

Police are appealing for witnesses after a Wilmslow man was left with severe bruising after trying to prevent thieves from stealing his car.

Shortly before 3am on Friday, 21st October, a brick was thrown through the window of a house in Dean Drive and car keys to a white Audi A1 were taken.

The victim tried to stop the offenders as they attempted to drive away and was dragged off his drive and trapped between another vehicle causing severe bruising.

The offenders then fled the scene in the car.

DS Simon Mills said: "This was a particularly nasty incident where a man was injured trying to protect his property. It is understandable that you want to protect your property, but these offenders were determined to take the car and were prepared to take it at any cost. I would advise that if you ever find yourself in this position you call 999 immediately and keep yourself safe."

Anyone with information can contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 82 of 21 October 2016. Alternatively information can be given anonymously by contacting Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

A scary and rather nasty incident that could have turned out much more serious.
DS Simon Mills' comment puts another issue in focus. WHEN, not if, our local bobbie shop is sold off for development any 3am call will likely mean the 'local' police attending from Macclesfield - fat lot of good that will be!
Random incidents cannot be stopped altogether but they can be prevented with local patrols and an active police station just around the corner does help give a semblance of security. I can see the bad guys laughing all the way to the bank (so to speak) once Hawthorn Street shuts it's doors for the last time.
