The Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) continue their 20th anniversary commemorations with another new initiative in partnership with Irish Rail.

The first new "Urban Travel Dictionary" poster has been displayed alongside the ever changing poems in Poets Corner which Irish Rail has provided for many years. They also donated the first foreign railway "Handforth" sign which has now been followed by more that a dozen others ranging from Hong Kong to London Underground.

David Franks was MD of First Northwestern, who ran the rail service through Handforth in the early days of FoHS, and is now CEO of Irish Rail.

He said "We are delighted to continue Irish Rail's partnership with the Friends of Handforth Station and I am so pleased that they continue to progress so spectacularly since my early involvement with the group. They were the first Station Friends Group and continue to be in the forefront of the station adoption field with their wide ranging imaginative initiatives and ideas.

"Mike introduced our first Irish Best Station Competition which we continue today and gave us the advice to start some of our own Community schemes at stations. Irish Rail is committed to working with groups who, with us, wish to improve the travel experience by rail."

Mike Bishop, founder of the Group, met David on a recent visit to Ireland where he spotted these posters.

He said "We are very grateful for these latest quirky posters which as well as being amusing are actually very perceptive and have an underlying education message. Come and see them, with new ones being added in the weeks ahead. Also, look out for the rest of our "Platform for Art", carved railway sleeper sculptures, paintings, ceramics, screens and flags."
