In Pictures: The 2016 Wilmslow Motor Show

Crowds of local residents and visitors flocked to Wilmslow town centre today to view a hotbed of luxury vehicles, chat to the dealers and soak up the atmosphere.

The 4th Wilmslow Motor Show, organised by the Wilmslow Business Group and supported by Wilmslow Town Council once again attracted large numbers of families as well as petrol heads.

In addition to watching the supercar parade, Sporting Bears Motor Club were behind the wheel offering visitors the opportunity to have a ride around the streets of Wilmslow in an Aston Martin, Ferrari or Bentley - in return for a donation to The Childrens' Adventure Farm Trust (CAFT) which provides holidays and activities for terminally ill, chronically sick, disabled and disadvantaged children.

Thanks to Lee Calver and Dean Purcell for sending me some photos for our gallery above.

It was an interesting event, but I was a touch disappointed that the lead police motorcycle rider in the parade set the cars off at less than walking pace - plus most of the cars seemed to get stuck in the normal traffic jam waiting for the lights. Is it too expensive to ask for a 5/10-minute road closure?

The drive through, what a disappointment.
We waited ages for it to start, the police didn't seem to know what was happening, you'd had thought this was the first time it was held.
The police made them drive at a snails pace through the town, NO, we wanted to hear the roar of the engines.
I've been since the first one but this is the last time.

It seems the police want the event to fail, they deliberately slowed the parade down to walking pace which allowed vans and Nissan micras etc to join in and spoiled the spectacle for the huge crowd. They were also issuing tickets to all the super cars that didn't have front number plates.

Disappointing. We couldn't see one half of the parade as traffic was still coming through going the other way. When the parade returned everyone pushed to the edge of the pavement blocking the view we'd had for the last hour. Would it really hurt the town badly to close off the town centre to traffic for a short while?

We've tried for several years to get a full road closure, but we can't, neither on Alderley Rd, nor Water Lane. Its not about 'hurt to town' or anything like that. Please understand that these measures were put in place because of significant issues with the crowd and a few drivers last year. The police had to be engaged with, it wasnt optional, and public safety is paramount. There are many youtube videos of the parade last year, some showing the public four or five deep on the road, in the wet. Something had to be done, or the show wouldnt happen.

The organisers, like me, dont get paid for this, its a project, an event for the town and we do our very best, and most of us work full time too, and for some of us, it impacts our business a bit too. Get the bigger picture please, its all about trying to market our town.

However, the Motor Show is not just about the parade, please remember that. This year, as ever, dealers are delighted with response.

I think, if you want to change this, or help, get involved, you wont get paid, you'll lose sleep, and you have to face negative comment, and red tape. But you'll be working on a project for the town...

We like the motor show, but then we do go to "car meets" and expect to simply look at cars rather than see them "perform". The variety of vehicles this year was good and it wasn't simply about the "parade" on Alderley Road because there were displays in other areas of the town. Visitors come with us and are always impressed by the event - even last year in the pouring rain. So basically I say, "Well done all"!

Whilst the council are busy telling us what a wonderful job they're doing with little evidence thereof, the organisers of the motor show did Wilmslow proud once again. There was a great atmosphere, the streets were packed and there was a general "feel good" factor about the town. Given the deluge of idiotic paperwork and ludicrously over zealous health and safety regulations the organisers will have to wade through (all voluntarily) I think they deserve a pat on the back.

How anyone can be negative about the Motor Show is beyond me. The time, effort, blood, sweat and tears that go into organising it by a small group of passionate volunteers is amazing.
The buzz around the town both on the day and leading up to it only enhance the profile of Wilmslow.
35,000 people coming into Wilmslow on a single day is a credit to Steve Kennedy, Catherine McKenzie and the Wilmslow Business Group.
Well done you guys!
