The Post Office has announced plans to open a newly modernised "main" Post Office on Green Lane which will be open seven days a week.

The Post Office at Tesco Express will close at 1pm on Saturday, 1st October for just over three weeks to enable the refurbishment to take place.

The service, which will launch at 8am on Tuesday 25th October, will be provided from five modern screened serving positions.

The branch will then be open seven days a week, from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Sunday, increasing the opening hours by 53 hours a week to offer more choice of times to visit.

Tesco Express will also be closed during this period for refurbishment which, following feedback from customers, will include changes to improve the external appearance of the store.

The new-look store will also have an improved layout and extended new ranges. Work will also take place to remove asbestos from the wider building that houses the Tesco store.

Jason Mallinson Wilmslow's Tesco Express Store Manager said "We are delighted to be welcoming customers to the newly modernised Tesco store and improved Wimslow Post Office. We're always looking for ways to offer our customers in Wilmslow that extra little help and the changes we're making alongside the Post Office services that will be available for the full opening hours of the store will provide an excellent service for the local community. We're sorry for any inconvenience that the closure may cause in the meantime, but look forward to welcoming customers back to a much improved shop."

Anne Clark Post Office Area Manager said: "We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents."

She added: "We are confident that this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs. This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office and will secure services for the future."

The Post Office will close at 1pm on Saturday 1st October for the refurbishment to take place and the Tesco store will close the day after. During the closure Post Office services may be accessed from Handforth Post Office at 118 Wilmslow Road or Alderley Edge Post Office at 12 West Street.

It sounds as though a much needed improvement to that retail block is beginning and hopefully will escalate across the other units that are in desperate need of a facelift. We have to work hard to keep Wilmslow looking good!

Demolition of the whole block would be good and a more attractive building in its place.

What a great idea. Well done Tesco/Post Office. Can they paint a nice mural on the side wall of an Italian harbour scene instead of the mess it is now? It would make my lunch at Cibos restaurant opposite even more enjoyable!!

Be great if with 5 windows for service at least 3 are open.many times only two staff on the counters of the Post Office.I agree, Green lane is an eyesore, with Euro bins cardboard waste and huge delivery waggons.Baz

That's really convenient then - over three weeks when you have to get to Alderley Edge (good luck parking there) or Handforth and no doubt queue for ages in one of those two tiny post offices.

It's well over due, the Tesco facility both inside and out has been shabby and not fit for purpose for far too long. Actually, John, I would rather drive to Alderely than go into that building - hopefully the renovation will change that.
And when is the Coop move into Water Lane going to happen?
