Youngsters enjoy their first day at big school

With the summer holidays behind us, last week marked a big step for hundreds of little ones across Wilmslow and Handforth, and their parents, as they embarked on a new adventure with their first day at school.

As the new term began little ones set off in their new uniforms and shiny shoes to be greeted by their new teachers.

Jane Gornell, Headteacher at St Benedict's Catholic Primary School said "Our happy and enthusiastic reception class started school on Monday 5th September and have enjoyed learning, playing with new friends and eating lunch. They have been in school for full days and they have already become part of our happy school."

Miss Pengelly, Reception teacher at Lindow Primary School said "I am so impressed with how well the children have settled into school and are already learning the class routines. The Reception children each have a Year 6 'buddy' to look after them at playtime and lunchtime. The Year 6 children have been incredibly helpful ensuring the children can open their snacks, fasten their coats and they play games together!"

Mrs Dooley, Headteacher at Lacey Green Academy commented "Our new Reception children have settled down in school and it is though they have been here for a long while. They are super confident in their new surroundings, are busy trying out all the different activities on offer, making lots of new friends and best of all have big smiles on their faces. A wonderful group of children."

Miss Platt, the Class Teacher at Alderley Edge Community Primary School said "Children at Alderley Edge Community Primary school have had an excellent start during their first week at school, making new friends and learning the new routines. All of the children have settled brilliantly and have had big smiles at the start and end of each day - we are certainly looking forward to a great year ahead!"

Mrs Claire Hamilton, Headteacher at The Ryleys commented "Our Reception children have all settled in extremely well into their new routines and have enjoyed exploring and learning within their classrooms. We also welcome several new children to Reception and it's been a delight to see how well they have adjusted to The Ryleys."

Mrs Bathurst, Reception teacher at AESG said "Mrs Jeys, our new Headmistress, wasn't the only new girl this week! Our Reception girls have settled into school beautifully and have thoroughly enjoyed their introduction to Big School."
