Music scholarships up for grabs

GEORGE

St Bartholomew's Church is once again offering a number of choral scholarships, valued at£500, to able young singers between the age of 16 and 25.

St Bart's Director of Music, Philip Underwood, said "The purpose of the Organ and Choral Scholarships at St Bartholomew's is to support the work of the choir; maintain the standard of music-making in the church and through regular concerts and recitals, to enrich the artistic life of the wider local community."

Current organ scholar, 15 year old George Herbert, has recently passed his grade 8 organ exam with distinction as well as gaining a distinction in his professional diploma exam on trumpet, entitling him to use the letters DipABRSM. In addition to his work at St Bartholomew's he has just been made Junior Organ Scholar at Manchester Cathedral.

Philip added "A Choral/Organ Scholarship is excellent preparation for any young musician wanting to pursue music further, especially musicians who may wish to apply for choral/organ awards at University."

Please email Philip Underwood or telephone him on 0161 456 9037 for further details.
