Students at Wilmslow High celebrate GCSE success

There was much relief at Wilmslow High School today as students celebrated another impressive set of GCSE results with over 77% of entries gaining A*-C grades.

Dr James Pullé, Headteacher, congratulated students taking GCSEs in 2016 on their achievements saying "As a comprehensive school that is committed to being at the heart of its community, Wilmslow High School always regards GCSE results day as a moment to celebrate the full range of our students' aspirations and achievements. The students collecting their results today will now be taking the next steps in their education or training in the school sixth form, at college or in an apprenticeship. Whatever their destination we thank them for their contribution to school life over the last five years and wish them well for the future."

"Following last year's sharp rise in Wilmslow High School's GCSE results, and in the context of broadly stable results nationally, we were delighted that results at Wilmslow High School have remained impressive with over 77% of GCSE entries gaining A*-C grades. 70% of Wilmslow students have achieved the old threshold of 5 A*-C including English and Mathematics, with 75% gaining a C or above in English Language, 83% in English Literature and 86% in Mathematics. As usual, our top achievers gained excellent results with over 27% of entries gaining A or A* grades."

Dr James Pullé added "Of course, examination results are only one part of a "whole education" and students in this year's GCSE cohort have participated fully and performed highly across the full range of our wider curriculum. Achievements in national competitions, local events and moments of personal commitment have all been previously celebrated through school publications and the local media but this is a good moment to reflect on and recognise our community's good fortune in having so many young people of character."

Students achieved impressive performances across all 41 of the qualifications on offer at GCSE level.

Over 30% of the grades achieved in the following subjects were at A*A: Additional Maths, Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Food Technology, French, Geography, German, History, PE, Physics, RE, Sociology, Spanish and Statistics.
