Award winning show garden moved to Wilmslow

An award winning garden created for the RHS Tatton Flower Show has been moved to Wilmslow for the local community to enjoy.

A school garden designed and installed by Wilmslow High School and Cheshire East Youth Support Service was officially launched at the Oakenclough Children's Centre on Colshaw Farm on Thursday, 11th August.

Representatives from Wilmslow Town Council, Handforth Parish Council and Cheshire East Council attended the event to view the Aladdin themed garden, which was awarded both a distinction and 'Best High School Garden' at last month's RHS Tatton Flower Show.

The garden was funded by Wilmslow Town Council and Handforth Parish Council so those involved felt it was important that the garden was available for the community to see.

Oakenclough Children's Centre was chosen as this year's location, following on from Handforth Station where last year's School Garden was installed.

Joe McBride said "I think it's really important that the whole community can both visit and enjoy the garden, and I would encourage all members of the community to do so. Also, many thanks to the two town councils that funded the garden."

The garden features a mosaic and a snake, which young people from Handforth Youth Centre made themselves. The left side of the garden, which is made from marigolds, is designed to resemble a desert. This area also features cacti, and a 'magic carpet' which Wilmslow High School made. It was raised with bricks and two acrylic cylinders. The right hand side of the garden, which is made of lobelia, is designed to depict an oasis in the desert.

Altogether 30 to 40 young people were involved in the project, including members of several youth clubs in Wilmslow and Handforth, whilst other elements of the garden were made by students at Wilmslow High School.
