Summer Serenades conclude with French finale

George Herbert

The final recital in this year's series of Summer Serenades at St Bartholomew's Church takes on a French theme on Sunday, 24th July.

Fifteen year old George Herbert is currently organ scholar at St Bart's, and a student at Chetham's School of Music where he studies trumpet and piano.

Accompanied by St Bart's Director of Music Philip Underwood, George will perform a melée of French music for piano, trumpet and voice, including a sizzling Latin trumpet piece by Ravel and a selection of Debussy's gorgeously expressive Préludes for piano.

George joined Chetham's to become a chorister at Manchester Cathedral when he was nine years old and he has recently taken his Diploma exam on trumpet. George works regularly as a piano accompanist for local choirs and individuals, and enjoys entertaining the residents of Carrs Court in Wilmslow with his performances of popular songs from the 1920s-50s.

As usual, the recital begins at 3pm and will be followed by afternoon tea. All are welcome and admission is free, with a retiring collection to raise funds for the organ restoration fund, a cause which is, for obvious reasons, close to George's heart!

George commented "Being the organ scholar at St Bart's is amazing for me. With Philip's guidance I have been able to make really good progress with my organ playing, and I love being part of the musical team at St Bart's.

"The scholarship money has enabled me to have organ lessons at school which has also been a huge help, so I am really grateful to everyone at church for giving me this opportunity."
