Candidate for Wilmslow East election: Chetan Katre

As previously reported residents in the Wilmslow East will head to the polls on Thursday 4th August to elect a new councillor to represent the Wilmslow East Ward on Wilmslow Town Council.

Voters have a choice of three candidates to represent them: Mark Goldsmith (Residents of Wilmslow), Birgitta Hoffman (Liberal Democrat) and Chetan Katre (Conservative Party).

wilmslow.co.uk has published details for each of the candidates, below is information on Chetan Katre - Conservative Party. Details on the other two candidates can be seen by clicking on the Wilmslow East Election tag at the end.

A local NHS surgeon has been selected as the Conservative candidate for the vacant position on Wilmslow Town Council. Dr Chetan Katre, who lives in Wilmslow East, is a Consultant Head and Neck Cancer and Reconstructive Surgeon working in the Manchester Area.

Chetan said: "I am delighted to have this opportunity to hopefully represent the people of Wilmslow East. As someone who works in the NHS, I have a keen interest in road safety and will make this a top priority. I also want to improve Wilmslow as a place to live. The Town Centre and surrounding areas have benefitted from work that the Town Council has already done, but I believe there are many more opportunities."

Dr Chetan Katre has backed the ongoing work to create a Neighbourhood Plan for Wilmslow. The plan will feed in to the Cheshire East-wide Local Plan and have a real affect on future planning decisions.

He told wilmslow.co.uk "The Neighbourhood Plan is an excellent idea giving residents of Wilmslow a say on how their town develops. I support the cross party view of all Wilmslow Town Cllrs that on the Royal London site new offices are needed for continued economic vibrancy, but that it is the wrong place for housing."

Dr Chetan Katre has also highlighted the pond and stable block near Wilmslow Leisure Centre as an area urgently in need of improvement.

Chetan said: "This is an area that has been neglected for too long. The pond is a potential danger to children using the Leisure Centre, and it is also an area that could be very beautiful. The stable block is in urgent need of repair and could provide accommodation for a local business or organisation, or a community hub for Wilmslow."

Dr Chetan also spoke about the new light controlled crossing which is proposed for Davenport Green on Knutsford Road, near Upcast Lane.

He said: "I am delighted that funding has been approved for this crossing. Local residents and Lindow School have made clear their safety concerns for children crossing Knutsford Road at this point. The plans for the crossing will go out for consultation in the near future and I urge residents to back them."

Mixed messages coming from the Conservative camp. They are in the business of protecting the Green Belt yet they vote in favour of a Local Plan than over provides for both the commercial and domestic needs. They talk about sustainability yet, whilst supporting offices at Royal London, they think it is not the place for housing. So they don't think houses for workers on site is a good idea. They do not connect traffic congestion with commuting workers. Cheshire East has made it very clear that if we don't build houses on Royal London then another site will have to be allocated in the Local Plan. Thus, which additional Green Belt site are you going to recommend? I take the view that in taking out the Green Belt for offices and a hotel then I want houses here too.
