Local hospice to open new charity shop

Mick Prescott

East Cheshire Hospice are preparing to open their third charity shop in Handforth later this month.

Less than two years after the opening of a shop in Macclesfield, the brand new addition to their retail venture opens on Saturday 23rd July with a furniture and household store in The Paddock shopping centre.

Speaking about the new shop, Retail Development Manager, Mick Prescott said "Charity shops are very different now from say ten years ago when the image was of drab shops piled high with useless items.

"Now, particularly with the trend for shabby chic re-painted furniture, we're finding that shoppers love to hunt down a bargain and that we can hardly keep up with demand."

Finishing touches to the new Handforth store are now underway and the hunt is on for more volunteers to join the retail team.

Mick said "At the moment we have three great volunteers but with the shop open seven days a week we'd really like at least 30 more to help with all operations – from shop front to back room help. We can give full training to every volunteer so no need to worry if you haven't any retail experience."

Donations of furniture or other goods can be collected for free from homes within the Hospice catchment area. Further information is available by emailing Mick or by calling 01625 664988.
