The Oakwood on Brook Lane is now open for business, making it the 11th pub for the growing White Brasserie Pub Company, a sister company of Raymond Blanc's Brasserie Blanc.

Described as a combination of a traditional pub and French Brasserie, with an English twist, The Oakwood is divided into different areas to suit the mood or occasion. Whilst a huge open bar with weathered zinc top provides a focal point. There is also a large screen in the bar area where the main sporting events will be shown such a Wimbledon and the Euros.

The outside area has also been transformed with French courtyard planting and a large vine covered pergola.

The menu offers English pub classics such as gammon, egg and chips, burgers or pie of the week alongside classic French dishes such moules, beouf Bourguignon and lemon tart. There are also a seperate allergen and children's menu as well as offering half portions of selected a la carte dishes for older children, such as beef stroganoff, lamb cutlets or seared Shetland Isles salmon fillet.

Speaking about the last few days, Manager Jess Harris said "The response has been absolutely fantastic. We couldn't have asked for a better welcome from the area. The response has been overwhelming."

She continued "The staff have also been fantastic. The team have taken to it so well, there has been great banter."

Host Lucy Ball added "There has been almost a party atmosphere because we have all been so excited."

The dog-friendly pub is open from 11am to 11pm Monday to Saturday and from 12 noon till 10pm on Sundays when they will be serving roast dinners until they run out, including roast sirloin of Cornish beef, rack of free range Cherry Orchard pork and half roast free range Bretagne chicken - all of which come with unlimited gravy, roast potatoes and Yorkshires.
