Ravel’s Bolero to bring orchestra’s season to a resounding conclusion

David Keating guitar

If ever there was music which needed no introduction, it is Ravel's Bolero, surely the ideal piece to bring Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra's latest season to a resounding conclusion.

The Concierto de Aranjuez by the Spanish composer Joaqúin Rodrigo is hardly less well-known, and for this item we extend a warm welcome to the young Irish guitarist David Keating.

Born in Mexico 65 years ago, Arturo Márquez may not be as familiar a name, but his Danzón No. 2 has become something of a signature tune for the Simon Bolívar Youth Orchestra from Venezula, who made such an impression at the Proms in 2007.

We also hear his Conga del Fuego Nuevo and Aaron Copland's vivid El Salón México. Chabrier's lively España makes an ideal curtain raiser.

As conductor we welcome back once again the Spanish maestro Juan Ortuño. Although at home in all styles, this is very much his home territory. Juan's natural vitality makes his concerts memorable and listeners can expect a sparking conclusion to our latest concert season.

Do join us then at Wilmslow Leisure Centre on 11 June. The concert starts at 7.45pm.

Tickets cost £12 (Concession £10, Under 18s £2), and may be obtained from the Ticket Secretary (01925 756 144), at Bang & Olufsen, Alderley Road (01625 527666), at Therapy, Bank Square (01625 400113), or at the door.
