After 135 years of waiting, Lindow Cricket club will compete in the Cheshire County League for the first time this weekend. Promotion last season for both the 1st XI and 2nd XI and an invitation from the league for the club's 3rd XI, means that all three senior sides will be competing in Cheshire's top tier this summer.
The 1st XI welcome promotion hopefuls Mobberley to Upcast Lane in a game which 1st XI captain Ben Tyler says cannot come soon enough, "We have been eagerly awaiting this match since we gained promotion last September and although we know we are up against a very talented Mobberley team, we cannot wait to test ourselves at this higher level."
The 2nd XI travel to Ashton-on-Mersey, who also gained promotion last summer, whilst the 3rd XI have a T20 Cup match at home on Sunday against a very strong Timperley side.
This coming week also brings another exciting first for the club, with the launch of girls only cricket. The weekly sessions will be run by Jessica Lewis, Cheshire Cricket's Girls Development Officer, and will provide girls the chance to enjoy playing cricket with friends.
Club Secretary Adam Bull is thrilled the club can now offer girls in the area a team of their own, "We take great pride in being a community club and see the introduction of girls cricket at Lindow as a natural extension of our thriving junior section."
