Rail expert joins Friends to celebrate their 20th anniversary

2016

Friends of Handforth Station (FoHS) are delighted that rail expert Professor Paul Salveson will be the guest speaker at their forthcoming annual meeting.

Professor Paul Salveson is the Group Advisor for Community Rail at Arriva UK Trains and the founder of the Association of Community Rail Partnerships founder. He was awarded an MBE for services to the railway industry in 2008, is a visiting Professor of Transport and Logistics at the University of Huddersfield and author of several books on railway history and policy.

Everyone is welcome to attend The Friends of Handforth Station's 20th anniversary annual open meeting at St Benedict's Church Hall on Thursday, 14th, starting at 7.15pm with refreshments served at 7pm.

Mike Bishop, who formed FoHS in 1996, said "Guests will be able to hear about our successes in 2015 and plans for 2016, including working with Arriva, access to the station, artworks and garden, as well as ideas for commemorations of our 20th anniversary."

He added "Come and tell them us ideas, bring your questions, comments and suggestions etc."

There will be a short AGM, during which a new committee will be elected with, it is hoped, new people who will bring with them new ideas and enthusiasm to match that of the current Friends.

All new members attending the meeting will be entered into a draw for a Northern weekend Family ticket.
