A Wilmslow Church has applied to make alterations to its main entrance, create new side entrances and construct a link bridge to improve accessibility.

Wilmslow United Reformed Church on Chapel Lane is seeking planning approval for new access and exit doorways for the church and the re-ordering of the undercroft to incorporate a bridge link and pathways.

This application relates to an initial phase of the development to improve the access and egress to the church.

The scheme includes adding a new doorway in the north transept and a new ramp access to the main entrance and vestibule of the church to make it more accessible for wheelchair users. A step at the front door is to be removed and the terrace raised to provide a level entrance.

As a consequence the vehicle and pedestrian driveway is to be raised locally, the north entrance to the vestibule is to be reconfigured in the process to provide landing and stepped access. A bridge path will link the new doorway in the north transept with the ramps and landing to the front entrance and driveway. Additionally, a new doorway, in place of a window, is to be constructed at undercroft level for improved escape provision.

The planning application states "Some lighting will be necessary for personnel and security purposes and will be designed to avoid impact on neighbouring properties."

The planning application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 16/1087M. The last date for submitting comments is 19th April and a decision is expected to be made by 19th May.
