Derbyshire Caving Club are holding an Open Weekend at the Alderley Edge Copper Mines next month.

Guided underground tours of Engine Vein, which is perhaps one of the oldest sites of mining at Alderley Edge with finds of stone hammers dating it to the Bronze Age, will be held on both Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April.

The trip down Engine Vein will last about one hour and will normally leave on the half hour and hour between 10am and 4pm on both days.

Space on any of the trips can be reserved or people can just turn up on the day as space is left for people who do not book.

Reservations can be made in advance online. The cost is £8 for adults and £4 for children.

Nigel Dibben of Derbyshire Caving Club said "Open Days have been running since the early 1980s and remain as popular as ever. All trips are guided by Derbyshire Caving Club members who can also tell visitors about our activities at the Edge and caving and mining elsewhere."

You do not need to bring any special equipment. Lights and helmets will be provided but you should wear reasonable footwear and old clothes as they may get a bit sandy or muddy.

Nigel added "All are welcome although the number of steps in the mine mean that the trip is not suitable for people with limited mobility."
