Deano arrives in Handforth

The Friends of Handforth Station were delighted to receive lots of entries to name the latest art arrival at the station. The Fox sculpture designed and created by Helen Wright, an artist and teacher at Dean Oaks Primary, was donated to Handforth Station's Platform for Art. The Fox arrived on the station in January and has been spotted in a variety of locations without a name.

So, after a big work party - during which the 1st Dean Row Guides planted up a large bed and litter picked and the Friends were helped by Community Payback people to get things ready for a bike shelter, a new access for people with disabilities, and new displays - entries were considered by Friends of the Handforth Station.

The winning name Deano was suggested by local resident, Oliver Alexander, and was inspired by the River Dean. He has won a free travel card that permits train travel on Northern Trains for 2 weeks.

Andrew Backhouse, Secretary of Friends of Handforth Station said "Thank you to all the entrants. It was great fun working at the station and then having the delight of choosing a name. Being a Friend of the Station can often give a surprise!"

He added "To learn more about Arriva, our new train operator and volunteering opportunities put Thursday 14th April in your diary when Paul Salveson, Arriva Northern, transport consultant and writer and founder of ACoRP will speak at our next Open Meeting at 7.30 at St Benedicts Church Hall."
