Plans for watersports and outdoor adventure park unveiled

Plans have been unveiled for a new watersports and outdoor adventure park on a former quarry site, just outside Chelford.

Cheshire Lakes is currently going through the planning and development stages. The full planning application is due to be submitted this month, with the aim of opening in spring 2017.

Facilities will include a cable wakeboard park, low ropes course, open water swimming, paddle sports, café, watersports shop, showers and changing facilities.

Tim Woodhead, Managing Director, said "Cheshire Lakes will bring an amazing fully inclusive sports facility to the local area. It will enable people of all ages and abilities to learn and then regularly participate in a variety of different watersports. Our key aim is to get new people taking part in sport and to get young people away from computer games and TV screens and into the great outdoors.

'We have been looking for a location in Cheshire, as there are very few similar facilities. We found out that this quarry had just finished its working life and that some lakes would be created. Since then we have been working hard to create the masterplan, business model and feasibility study. We hope to submit our full planning application by the end of February 2016."

The plan is for Cheshire Lakes to be open all year round, with peak times during the summer months. In addition to being open to the general public, the facility will be able to cater for school and college groups.

The site has for the last 15 years been home to Mere Farm Quarry and used to extract sand. It is now in its transitional period and the plan is to develop a small part of the former quarry into an adventure centre. The remaining areas will be for wildlife, woodland and lakes whilst the current footpath, which runs through the middle of the site, will be retained.

The team behind Cheshire Lakes runs two similar facilities, Foxlake Adventures in Dunbar, Scotland and Liverpool Wake Park. The park is expected to create upwards of 30 jobs.

Cheshire Lakes are hosting a public consultation on Thursday, 11th February, at Chelford Village Hall on Knutsford Road from 12noon to 8pm. Locals are welcome to call in and see the plans and meet the people behind the project.

Tim added "We are hosting a public consultation so that locals can see our plans and give us feedback before we submit our final planning application. At the public consultation people can call in to meet us, see our plans and fill out feedback forms. We want Cheshire Lakes to be a great asset to the community and allow people to enjoy the lakes that will be formed by the last 15 years of sand quarrying."

Sounds fantastic if it offers the range of facilities listed here. Look forward to having paddle sport venue nearby.
