Transition Wilmslow is inviting local residents to a meeting about trees!

The meeting will take place on Monday 11th January at the Friends Meeting House on Bourne Street, starting at 7.30pm.

Everyone is welcome to join the discussion about how we care for the trees we have, and whether (and where) we need more trees in Wilmslow, plus how trees can be incorporated into the Cheshire East Local Plan. There will also be the opportunity to put your questions to their expert panel.

Professor Pippa Tyrrell explained "Recent unseasonably warm weather and devastating flooding across the north of England has brought home the importance of environmental stewardship and caring for our surroundings. Tree planting is being widely discussed as one way to alleviate flooding, but trees also have a myriad of other benefits, including improving our physical and mental well being. While our predecessors planted beautiful trees throughout the town which we value and enjoy, we perhaps have not been so generous to future generations and when the old trees die off, what will be left?

"Our town is likely to undergo many changes in the near future with housing and retail developments. How can we ensure that the trees we have now are properly cared for and that new trees are planted?"

Transition Wilmslow would like to hear your views which will later be presented to the Town Council to inform the local plans so bring along your tree questions for the expert panel including Professor John Handley, Chris Frankland from FTS trees, local cabinet maker Garry Olson, Maurice Palin from Incredible Edible and a representative of the National Trust at Styal).

Professor Tyrell added "Hear about the value of trees in urban environments and about the importance of proper care for trees, particularly when planted in pavements, and tell us what you think about trees in Wilmslow!"

Attendance is free of charge and all are welcome on Monday 11th of January, 7.30 pm at the Friends Meeting House in Bourne street.

I am sorry that I can't attend tonight's meeting but I am concerned at the loss of many trees in Wilmslow town centre - the cherries outside 50 Alderley Road which vanished with no comment during its refurbishment and those along the Parade which were in full blossom at the time. The replacements bear no comparison.

I would be interested to read the information if it could be made available afterwards?

Thanks.
