Ju Jitsu star strikes gold, and silver

A Year 10 student from Wilmslow High School has won a gold and silver medal in the northern ju jitsu competition.

After attending a skills course taught by senior instructors, Ellie Harris, along with a number of other Wilmslow High students, competed in the Bushido Northern Championships which were held in Chester last month.

Ellie has done ju jitsu for about 6 years and follows in her mother Sara's footsteps as she is a blackbelt and teaches the children at Wilmslow Ju Jitsu Club. Ellie loves doing ju jitsu as it gives her confidence and keeps her fit. She also enjoys teaching the younger children and has set herself a goal of getting her black belt by the time she is 16!

The competition involved sparring and ground fighting with other girls her age, for each heat she won she then progressed into the next round.

Ellie said "When I do the competitions I do get nervous but we practice lots with the instructors at the club with the other members and that helps. Next year we have a competition in Birmingham and I hope to complete in that."
