Air of mystery will surround orchestra's opening concert

The Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra kicks off their new season with a programme of northern mystery and romance

Two Russian favourites – the colourful overture to Borodin's opera Prince Igor and Tchaikovsky's stirring Symphony No 5 will begin and close the concert. In between they will perform the Violin Concerto by Sibelius.

Dermot Gault said "By turns brooding, passionate, playful and nostalgic, the Sibelius Concerto is one of the most demanding concertos ever written for the instrument. It will be played by the young virtuoso Sophie Rosa, who made such an impression when she played the Mendelssohn Concerto with us a few seasons ago."

Tom Newall, graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music, will conduct the concert at the Evans Theatre in Wilmslow Leisure Centre on Saturday 17th October, starting at 7.45 pm.

Tickets cost £12 (concessions £10) and can be bought at the door, or through the ticket hotline on 01925 756144, or through the Wilmslow Symphony Orchestra website.
