An award winning band will be performing at St Bartholomew's Church to help raise funds for the restoration of its pipe organ.

Werneth Concert Band will be joined by St Bart's very own Oscar The Organ on Saturday, 10th October, for a special arrangement of the final section of Saint-Saens - the famous organ symphony which provided the theme music to the Oscar award winning film "Babe".

The concert starts at 7.30pm and will also feature music by Sibelius and Leroy Anderson (of Sleigh Ride fame) as well as a selection of jazz piano pieces and works for saxophone quartet.

Werneth Concert Band is a prizewinning community wind band based in Romiley, near Stockport, with over 60 members whose ages range from teenagers to over 70. They play regularly at a range of venues across Greater Manchester and north west England and their repertoire ranges from arrangements of classical music, wind and military band music, selections from films and musicals, to the light and popular. They have also commissioned pieces specially for the band.

Ventures into competitive music have resulted in appearances in the finals of the Boosey & Hawkes National Concert Band Festival on a number of occasions, in 1993 and again in 1997 they received a gold award in the Community Band class and received a silver award on every other occasion they have appeared in the Manchester finals.

Entrance is £10 (£8 concessions), pay on the door.
