Macmillan coffee morning success

Local businesses, organisations and schools across Wilmslow invited people to join them for a cuppa and cake on Friday, 25th September, to raise money for people affected by cancer.

Freshly brewed tea and coffee were served along with an impressive selection of homemade cakes in return for a donation to Macmillan Cancer Research Trust.

The World's Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan Cancer Support's annual flagship fundraiser and celebrated its 25th birthday this year.

Amongst those taking part were Wilmslow firefighters, who raised nearly £300 at their Altrincham Road station, and 7-year-old Maria Carter, a pupil at St Anne's Fulshaw, who held an afternoon tea at her house. Maria baked the cakes, with a little help from mummy, and her twin brother Luke played waiter enabling her to raise over £200 for Macmillan.

On Thursday, 24th September, Lindow Primary School held a 'Great Bake Off' and all the children were invited to bake a cake with a 'Lindow' theme. The cakes were judged by representatives from Macmillian using the following criteria: Has it been made by a child? Does it represent Lindow School? How does it taste? Prizes were given to the top three, with certificates for the 'highly commended'.

The next morning, all the cakes were sold during their Macmillan coffee morning which raised £400 and another £100 from a company donation.

Headteacher Zoe Wilson said "Finally, as part of our links to the local community, we took two of our cakes to our local retirement home, Maywood, to share with our elderly neighbours."
