CycleWilmslow and Transition Wilmslow have hailed the success of a family-friendly bike ride which headed off from Wilmslow's Artisan Market on Saturday, 19th September.

Twenty participants, the youngest of whom had not yet reached his first birthday, enjoyed the ten-mile ride which took in the byways and quieter highways of Wilmslow, Alderley Edge, Great Warford and Mobberley. The sun came out in time for the afternoon start and the children we're thrilled to see a diverse selection of animals on the ride including ostriches, donkeys and alpacas.

Andrew Backhouse, a Transition Wilmslow and CycleWilmslow member, who also manned the International Day of Peace stall at the market, commended: "Building community is something that seems to resonate for us in Wilmslow. Whether it was the U.N. International Day of Peace stall, or the bike ride, or the market, people everywhere appreciated doing things together to build a better community. Today people really appreciated the opportunity to come together to do something fun and dynamic. Transition Wilmslow, which wants to make us a more sustainable community, was delighted to work with Cycle Wilmslow to run this ride, and we hope to do so again at more Artisan Markets."

CycleWilmslow, a voluntary community group which is free to join, advocates cycling for leisure and transport. It will be holding its annual meeting on Thursday 1st October at 7.30pm in the Railway pub in Handforth. Anyone is welcome to attend - the group needs more people to become involved in order to secure its future.

this was a really lovely cycle in and around Wilmslow. it was easy enough for some younger children to cycle the whole way and a lovely way to see all the cycle routes that can keep you off the main roads. it would be good to have more of these type of events to get more families out on bikes.
