Wilmslow Royal British Legion pay their respects on 70th anniversary of VJ-Day

The Wilmslow branch of the Royal British Legion paid their respects to the 'forgotten soldiers' who fought in the Far East during World War 11.

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day last month a minutes silence was held at the Memorial Gardens, near St. Bartholomew's Church, to mark the day on which Japan surrendered to the Allies, in effect ending World War II after almost six years of war.

They were joined by a standard bearer and bugler who played the last post from above the the Memorial Gardens.

Khumi Burton, a member of the Royal British Legion said "It was a very emotional remembrance and we were joined by three families whose parents fought in Burma."
