The Wilmslow Branch of the British Heart Foundation which was formed forty years ago in 1975 celebrated this milestone at its recent Annual Garden Party.

The Garden Party was held at the home of Brian and Ann Stanford-Smith in Wilmslow Park and whilst rain forced the event to be held inside it did not dampen the spirits and enthusiasm as some sixty supporters attended and enjoyed the traditional fare of scones, strawberries and clotted cream.

During the afternoon Sion Edwards, BHF's Western Region Manager, presented the award to the branch for forty years service and congratulated those who had served over the years.

In accepting the award, Joan Cracknel, Wilmslow Branch's Chairman, said, "I'm very proud and pleased to accept this award on behalf of all the branch committees.

"I can recall our first meeting forty years ago and have been a committee member ever since. Over the forty years the branch has contributed more than £400,000 to the British Heart Foundation. One of our main fund raising activities is the sale of Christmas cards. In fact, Wilmslow is the leading branch in the country for income from this source."

Brian Critchley, the branch treasurer, closed the event by thanking the hosts and all those involved. He later revealed that the proceedings from ticket sales and the raffle had raised £675.
