Police re-appeal following sexual assault at station

British Transport Police detectives have re-released CCTV images of a man they would like to speak to in connection with a sexual assault and believe Wilmslow residents may be able to help identify him.

The re-release comes over two years after the incident occurred at Manchester Piccadilly Station.

British Transport Police's appeal to identify the sexual offender also featured on the BBC's Crimewatch Roadshow last week. A reconstruction of the incident in which a young woman was repeatedly groped on escalators at Manchester Piccadilly Station was broadcast on Tuesday, June 23rd.

The incident happened shortly before 6pm on Wednesday 10th April 2013 as the woman, a 23-year-old from Manchester, travelled on the escalator towards the Fairfield Street entrance.

Chief Inspector Andrea Graham was interviewed for the piece on Crimewatch in an attempt to find the offender, who despite numerous appeals since the incident, has not been identified.

She said: "It is vital we find this man. This was a terrifying experience for the victim who was assaulted not once, but three times. We know from previous experience that incidents like this can escalate and lead to even more serious sexual offences.

"Someone out there must know the identity of this man. He was carrying a Wilkinsons clip frame, which he used in an attempt to shield his actions from view.

"After the assault and before boarding a train from Manchester Piccadilly he went on to grope another woman.

"He left the train at Wilmslow station and was picked up by a waiting BMW x3 which was white or silver in colour.

"We would urge anyone who recognises the man or who has any information regarding the incident to get in touch immediately."

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference 389 of 22/06/2015. Information can also be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
