This Sunday, if you're looking for somewhere to escape the soaring temperatures that are forecast for the rest of this week, why not step into the cool stone interior of St Bartholomew's Church and enjoy some beautiful baroque music.

Recorder and harpsichord duo John Turner and David Francis will perform at this weekend's Summer Serenade to help raise funds to restore the historic organ at St Bart's.

John Turner is one of the country's foremost recorder players, having played, recorded and broadcast as a soloist with the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, the Academy of Ancient Music, the English Chamber Orchestra and many other leading chamber orchestras. David Francis is the Head of Academic Music at Manchester Grammar School, a role he combines with an active performing, recording and broadcasting life as a harpsichordist.

The programme for Sunday includes work by Handel, Telemann, Scarlatti – and the first performance of a piece written by St Bart's very own organ scholar George Herbert!

The Summer Serenades continue every Sunday throughout July, all starting at 3pm and followed by afternoon tea. Admission to all the recitals is free, with a retiring collection for the church Organ Restoration Appeal.

The June recitals have already raised almost £1,000 for the Appeal, and organisers hope to double the amount by the end of July.
