Weekend on the Carrs raises £3000 for local groups

The 'Weekend on the Carrs' Event that took place on June 20th and 21st raised a record £3000 for local groups and organisations.

The weekend's events, which for the first year included the highly successful 'Cinema on the Carrs' alongside the established 'Party on the Carrs', not only brought entertainment to over 3000 residents, but also provided much needed recognition and fundraising opportunities for local groups and charities.

Matthew Jackson, Town Clerk said "The event has always been focused on enhancing a feeling of community and the representation of local groups is central to that. The Party event this year was particularly successful in this respect not only raising £3000 for fantastic causes but also raising the profile of more local groups than ever before.

"There are some wonderful groups, societies and organisations in Wilmslow many of which go under the radar and events like this can help raise their profile, we hope that more groups get in touch and participate in future."

Groups that benefited financially this year included the Royal British Legion, Crafts for Charities (raising funds for East Cheshire Hospice), Wilmslow Animal Sanctuary, Lindow Scouts, 1st Dean Row Guides and the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean who raise money for local charities.

Groups that participated in order to raise their profile included Friends of the Carrs, Wilmslow Park Run, Wilmslow Business Group (launching the Community Award Scheme), the Rotary Club of Wilmslow Dean, Cheshire Search and Rescue ( who also provided first aid cover) and Wilmslow Clean Team who also kept the Carrs litter free during the Sunday.
