Change of use would allow for new drinking establishment

A planning application has been submitted for a change of use to enable a pub or bar to open on Hawthorn Lane.

The proposal is to change the use of 4 Hawthorn Lane to A4 (drinking establishment). The premises have been empty since Honeysuckle Health Foods closed last year - after trading in the town centre for over 20 years.

The scheme also includes the erection of a side and rear extension and a new pedestrian access to existing carpark.

This is a speculative application, rather than for a specific company, which is designed to attract a boutique business. The agent explained that they very much like what The Italian Lab has created and would be keen for another local operator to open something similar on Hawthorn Lane, maybe with a different cuisine or a micro brewery selling local beers.

Additionally, the building is run down and in need of smartening up. This application is also part of a wider development plan for the carpark.

The planning application can be viewed on the Cheshire East Council website by searching for planning reference 15/2394M . The last date for submitting comments is 1st July and a decision is expected to be made by 23rd July.
